Quiz: Which salad do I eat today?
I can make two kind of dishes
- Tomato and Mozzarella and
- Mushroom and Radish.
I get 10 degree of satisfaction if I eat
tomato and mozzarella
while I get 8 degree of satisfaction if I eat
mushroom and radish.
I also have to prevent myself from growing fat and being high blood pressure
by restricting the energy and
the salt of the relish
to 100kcal and 0.5g per one day respectively.
In order to obtain the maximum degree of satisfaction,
how many times per one week can I take each of the dishes?
|
Tomato and Mozzarella |
Mushroom and Radish |
upper bound / week |
Energy/dish | 279kcal | 119kcal | 700kcal |
Salt/dish | 0.18g | 2.8g | 3.5g |
degree of satisfaction | 10 | 8 | |
Let
x1 and x2 be the times I can take
tomato and mozzarella and
mushroom and radish per one week respectively.
Then, the problem will be formulated as:
maximize | z | = |
10x1 | +8x2 |
subject to | | |
279x1 | +119x2 |
<= | 700 |
| | |
0.18x1 | +2.8x2 | <= | 3.5 |
| | |
x1>=0, | x2>=0 | | |
By using the simplex algorithm:
we obtain an optimal solution
z=29.17 when x1=2.03, x2=1.12.
In other words, I can obtain the maximum degree of satisfaction 29.27
when I take about two dishes of tomato and mozzarella
per week and about one dish of mushroom and radish
per week. Other days of the week are the Sabbath of my liver.
